Community Spotlight: Meet Jessica Morgan

At Women in DevOps,we strive to promote gender equity as we encourage, celebrate, and empower like-minded tech professionals around the world. We are shining a light on our community member, Jessica Morgan, who currently works at Capgemini as a DevOps Platform Engineer.
Where did you study and what got you into technology?
I joined Capgemini as a Degree Apprentice at age 24 with no coding experience, except for some basic online courses. I always liked technology and computers, but for some reason, I had never considered it as a career! I was working an office job but felt like I needed something more challenging. I wanted to learn some new skills so I researched apprenticeships and found Capgemini and the Degree Apprenticeship which I had never heard of before. I was enrolled into Aston University and then over the course of four and a half years, I completed my degree as well as learned a lot of practical skills in my day-to-day role at Capgemini.
What have been your biggest career and personal achievements?
I think achieving my Digital and Technology Solutions degree was probably my proudest achievement as it seemed impossible at the start. I also feel that I have grown massively in my confidence since starting this career. I am now confident leading meetings, speaking with senior engineers, presenting and mentoring others. I especially enjoyed being on the panel at the Women in DevOps event in Holborn, as that was a first for me!

Tell us about your current place of work and role.
I currently work at Capgemini which is where I started my career. However, since joining, I have been in many different roles and different projects so it has remained interesting. I work as a platform engineer at the moment, mostly specialising in AWS and Terraform to create Infrastructure as Code for large public sector clients.
