Working From Home: Staying Happy and Healthy

We are on hand to advise on current trends and opportunities for our clients, and to offer further support. Here are a few things you can do to effectively work from home whilst maintaining a positive mindset:

1.    Get changed out of your PJs every morning – this can help get you in the right headspace for work and allow you to participate in ad-hoc video calls

2.    Where possible, use a video call instead of a normal call. Seeing people face to face can help stop feelings of isolation and loneliness

3.    Pick a dedicated workspace in your home (ideally not your bedroom – see next point!), ideally with a good chair that will support your back

4.    Try to keep your bedroom as a sacred space for sleeping and relaxing where work is banned. It'll help make the work-life divide a little clearer

5.    Wake up more than five minutes before your workday starts - you need time to prepare for the day, both mentally and physically

6.    Make sure you are on time for your scheduled calls and video-calls. If you are running late for any reason, let those on the call know as soon as possible

7.    Sign out and turn off notifications for work-related messages when you have finished working for the day

8.    Make sure you take your lunch breaks, and during this time try not to look at anything work related

9.    Be sure to socialise after work, even if it's just a call to a friend, to keep the loneliness at bay

10.  Communicate to people you live with that you're working, for example if you have a video call with a client or candidate and need everyone to be quiet

11.  Use headphones and mute your microphone during conference calls (unless you're speaking) to minimize the amount of audio feedback and times that random sounds interrupt the conversation

12.  Be in regular contact with your manager and let them know if you need any support or have any training needs

13.  Go outside (unless you have been told to self-isolate)! Even if it's just a quick walk around your block, the fresh air will do wonders

14.  Stay active. You may not want to go to a gym, but there are plenty of workouts you can try at home - https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/10-minute-workouts/

15.   Sharing is caring! Share your achievements with your colleagues (anything positive that could help you or someone else in the business)

16.   Get support! Our Mental Health First Aider can provide a listening ear and advice to anyone who is going through some form of mental health issue or emotional distress. Mental Health First Aiders are there to support an individual and help by listening, not being judgemental and encouraging them to access the available professional supportWorking From Home: Staying Happy and Healthy
